Group Capabilities

Capabilities

RAYNET Pembrokeshire’s Group Capabilities :

We can provide a flexible communications service for major civil emergencies or related exercises to local community events. This includes setting up and operating a radio communication network anywhere in the UK with links at key strategic locations and / or points of failure for other means of communication (e.g. telephones or mobile masts).

We can assist responders in recovery from major incidents when more traditional communications have failed, in scenarios requiring the rapid deployment of a radio communications net, (typically in evacuation rest centres or at hospitals or fire & rescue centres) and sometimes directly at the point of a major incident location.

RAYNET have provided resilient communications at major incidents involving aircraft, trains, flooding, evacuations, telephone exchange failures, missing persons searches, adverse weather, and oil / chemical pollution incidents in the past.

We have also provided safety of life communications for large-scale community events, such as:

  • Endurance Horse Ride Events
  • Marathons
  • Cycling Events
  • Parades and Carnivals
  • Charity events, Fun Runs
  • Local Community Fete’s, Displays and Seasonal Festivities

Typical Activities we undertake

Events

A brief description of the type of event we can take part in :

Battle on the Beach

An annual off-road cycle event usually held late March / early April at Pembrey Country Park (South Carmarthenshire) and accompanying beach area. Raynet provide all the resilient radio communications over a wide area.

Gritfest

An annual off- and on-road cycle event usually held late June in Mid Wales (typically around a resevoir) that involves significant numbers of participants and lots of stamina. Raynet provide all the resilient radio communications over a wide and geographically-challenging area.

Exercises

The group exercise their communication and message handling capabilities routinely (2-3 times per year) across all modes and a number of the amateur radio bands to ensure we are prepared for live eventualities.  We undertake these across the whole of Pembrokeshire and sometimes beyond, as is the case where we assisted Cardiff RAYNET with their digital communications net on their ‘999 day’ held 13th September 2025.
